“An HONEST answer is like a kiss on the lips.” - Proverbs 24:46
A lawyer is a guardian or minister of truth and the rule of law, and an indispensable instrument in the fair and impartial administration of justice. The good moral character that every attorney must possess includes at least common honesty, whether in his professional or private capacity.
Law school is a training ground for the noble legal profession. In fact, every bar candidate who lied or did not disclose accurate information on his application, or if there are charges filed against him involving moral turpitude is either prevented from taking the Bar Exam or will no be allowed to take the lawyer’s oath in case he has passed it.
But why do people always think lawyers are liars? Because they believe Lawyers often shade the truth to win a case. NO, that is just a fiction! The truth is, cases are won or lost based upon the CREDIBILITY and VERACITY of the evidences presented and the faithful application of the law. It is also the duty of an attorney to exert his best judgment in order to defend and protect the interest of his client. He cannot even divulge top secret extended to him by his client pursuant to the Rules safeguarding privileged communications. But he has every right to require his client to be honest and transparent to promote collaboration and efficiency, just like the doctor-patient relationship.
